Arenas Schools United for Peace

On the 30th January the Arenas Educational Institution commemorated the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace by carrying out various activities and presentations in Colegio Arenas, Colegio Arenas Atlántico and Colegio Arenas Internacional. The objective of these events was to highlight the importance of an education in and for tolerance, solidadrity, harmony, respect for human rights, non-violence and peace. On this day, schools and other education centres become instruments of peace and understanding between people form different races, cultures and religions.

With this in mind, the students of Colegio Arenas Internacional paid homage to Nelson Mandela in a display attended by parents and family members. This event was the grand finale to a week of work in which the students learned songs, created banners and posters, compiled famous quotes related to peace in the different languages taught at the school, organised rehearsals, built on values such as friendship, tolerance and respect, created murals with quotes from the nobel peace price winner, etc.

Both the nursery and primary students also particpated in the events of the School Day for Non-Violence and Peace and have worked in class with songs, stories, poems and murals to highlight the importance of a world without war and the values required to create a better society.

At Colegio Arenas Atlántico commemoration of the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is based around a Charity Run organised by  the  International Baccalaureate students. More than 1200 students from Colegio Arenas, Colego Arenas Atlántico and Colegio Arenas Sur (from nursery to Baccalaureate) participated in this event that took place on 31st January for its seventh year.
