Spanish – German bilingual experiences

The exchange programme with Stuttgart concludes

On Friday 3rd May, the visit of 14 students from a school in Stuttgart who have lived for a week with students and relatives of the second year of Compulsory Secondary Education at Colegio Arenas Atlántico came  to an end. It is the second part of the exchange programme that last February allowed the students from the Canary Islands to live seven intense days of learning in Germany.

This is the third edition of this Exchange Programme born in 2011 with the aim of becoming an important tool to strengthen the knowledge of the German language and culture that the students acquire at school. On the other hand, it is unquestionable the value of this kind of experience in the personal field given that the knowledge of the country and the foreign culture allow them to widen their space and mental horizon.

This year it has been a coincidence that the participating students were all girls. From the 26th of  April an extensive programme of activities conducive to enhance the level of German and Spanish respectively have been carried out. During their stay students have participated in various educational, recreational and cultural activities that involve a pedagogical script of questions to learn. For example, if the students plan to visit a museum, they will have a specific vocabulary about that activity to help them to acquire new knowledge. Among the activities carried out this last week, it is important to highlight the interactive projects in both languages and recreational activities such as workshops of pintaderas from the Canary Islands, a barbecue in la Cumbre, a visit to Vegueta, games in Las Canteras, shopping in Triana and a boat tour in the south of the island.

The visit ended with a party where the students danced and sang their favourites songs while watching on a screen some of the pictures they have exchanged and they will keep as a memory of this wonderful experience.
