The Sports Centre will provide an  indoor facility available to the clubs and the sports teams that require an approved space for competitions and training.

The Director General of the Colegios Arenas, Alberto Rodríguez, and the Architect Daniel Padrón, presented on Thursday the 20th, the new construction project of the indoor pavilion and the partially covered heated swimming pool that will take place soon in the sports grounds attached to Colegio Arenas Internacional.

The project, which emerges under the modernisation plans of the Government of the Canary Islands for increasing tourism competitiveness, will be implemented in a time of economic crisis in which there are
hardly any companies able or willing to invest in infrastructure, resulting in an investment of about 2 million Euros for the island of Lanzarote that will contribute to the development of the tourist town of Costa Teguise.

During the presentation it was explained that “an indoor sports pavilion will be built, a heated swimming pool, a multi-purpose room (multiple uses), with a total of 2,140 square meters, along with some paddle courts.” Among the additional facilities, the project includes the construction of changing rooms (110 m2), an infirmary (10 m2), a reception, sports stores, etc.

The materials used for its construction meet the recommendations of the modernisation plan for increasing tourism competitiveness, in line with the architecture of Lanzarote where white colours, volcanic stone and wood predominate.

It has been tried to achieve “a restrained architecture, without formal significance which is related to the sequential emptiness marking the typological order of the
school.

To the Director General of the Colegios
Arenas, Alberto Rodríguez, “this project will mean a considerable improvement in the facilities and the sports offer of Colegio Arenas Internacional, which will result in a greater benefit to the Educational Community, while representing a good investment for the tourist town of Costa Teguise.”

The Sports Centre will also allow to make available to clubs and sports teams an indoor space approved for competitions and training. After its construction, the Centre will organize a wide variety of leisure activities for its
students and external audiences, such as the creation of a Swimming School with a comprehensive programme of water activities. It will also offer sports activities such as martial arts, gymnastics or dance, among others.
