The IB mission statement

The IB aims to train young people caring, informed and eager for knowledge, capable of contributing to create a better and more peaceful world, in the framework of mutual understanding and intercultural respect. In pursuit of this objective, the IB Organization works with schools, Governments and international organizations to create and develop programmes of international education demanding and rigorous evaluation methods.
 
 
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The international baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program is a comprehensive, rigorous and demanding pre-university course with a high degree of motivation on students and teachers. It has a  two years duration, at the end of which students are evaluated externally. Much of its success is due to the rigorous evaluation system, which combines an internal part carried out by the teachers who give (20% of the score) and an outer part (remaining 80% of the rating). This evaluation process is based on control of the performance of each student, according to levels very well defined.
 
The title that gives direct access to the leading universities in the world covers a wide range of academic disciplines and constitutes a curriculum that have benefited more than half a million students from 119 countries since its inception in 1968.

Curriculum

The Diploma Programme students study six subjects  offered by the Arenas Atlántico school of different academic areas deeper in certain areas (higher level) and other more generally (mid-level).
 


 The Diploma Programme is much more than the study of six subjects. Three elements constitute the core of the curriculum and make the program a unique training opportunity.

Theory of knowledge (TOK) is an interdisciplinary course that aims to make students the true protagonists in the process of acquisition of knowledge, making them active subject to knowledge areas that make up the program.
 
Theory of knowledge programme aims to that student, after two years of study, analyze critically claims knowledge of others and positioning reasonably to them, after contemplating the different positions on the subject in question can give and expressing it correctly.

 

Evaluation of TdC understand development an essay of 1,200 to 1,600 words on one of the ten prescribed by IBO titles and a 10 minute presentation about at the end of two years.

 

The monograph is one of the six subjects of the program evaluated externally. This work must be drawn up by the student (4,000 words) and provides an opportunity to deepen on topics of their interest.

  

CAS (creativity, action, service) activities. The IB  provide comprehensive training to students includes their curriculum these activities that aim to encourage participation, the ability of organization, teamwork and solidarity.

 
 

The student can perform some of the many activities proposed by coordinating school CAS activities or which it proposes.

 
Some examples of activities CAS are as follows:
 

  • Participate as a player in one of the Federated teams our Center.
  • Prepare  a musical choreography for the Olympic sports - cultural of the school
  • Organize the annual Christmas card contest.
  • Teach of reinforcement for students with difficulties.
  • Teach musical instruments to students of the school.
  • Participate in reforestation campaigns.
  • Collaborate with centres of diminished physical and psychic.
  • Serve in non-governmental organizations.
  • Organizing activities in nature with other IB World schools.

Recognition
 

  

The Diploma Programme requires the integrated study of subjects of Sciences and Humanities, in addition to the TdC, CAS and the monograph activities. For the moment, and until take a final decision concerning its approval, the Ministry of education at Atlantic sands college students enrolled in certain matters to obtain the title of Bachelor LOE in the chosen mode.
